Information Concerning the Federal Education Assistance Act (BAföG) for Philosophy Students

Required Documents

In order to qualify for student financial assistance (BAfÖG) in Germany, you will need a certificate specifying your achievements from the university. In order to be issued this certificate from the Institute of Philosophy, you will need to provide us with the following documents:

  • an up-to-date certificate from the examination office (akademischer Prüfungsamt) documenting your completed Studienleistungen and Prüfungsleistungen, and
  • a copy of all Studien- and Prüfungsleistungen that do not appear on the certificate from the examination office.

Academic Requirements

As a rule, you should have obtained the following amount of LP by the end of the third/fourth semester of your bachelor's degree:

Philosophy as a First Subject

  With school-based internship programme (total of 90 LP over 6 semesters) With non-school-based internship programme (total of 90–106 LP over 6 semesters)
Achievement at the end of the 3rd semester 45 LP 45–53 LP
Achievement at the end of the 4th semester 60 LP 60–70 LP

Philosophy as a Second Subject

  With school-based internship programme (total of 90 LP over 6 semesters) With non-school-based internship programme (total of 90–106 LP over 6 semesters)
Achievement at the end of the 3rd semester 30 LP 25–33 LP
Achievement at the end of the 4th semester 40 LP 33–44 LP
