Internships for Philosophy Students

Here you'll find information on mandatory internships in the Interdisciplinary Bachelor's (FüBA) and the Master of Education programmes.

Interdisciplinary Bachelor's Degree (FüBa)

The course regulations for the "Fächerübergreifenden Bachelorstudiengang" allow for two types of internship programmes: a school-based internship programme or a non-school-based internship programme.

  • Students who choose the school-based option must complete a four-week internship outside the university and a four-week internship in a school.
  • Students who choose the non-school-based option must complete two four-week internships or one eight-week internship outside the university.

More information on each programme can be found below.

  • School-based Internship (Allgemeines Schulpraktikum)

  • Non-school-based Internship (Außerschulisches Praktikum)

At least one non-school-based internship must be completed by all FüBa students. Students who choose the school-based internship program must complete a four-week non-school or university-based internship (5 LP), while those who choose the non-school-based-program must complete two four-week or one eight week placement/s (10 LP).

The Master of Education comprises a mandatory five-week internship.

  • M.Ed. Internship

    General Information

M.Ed. students can complete their internship as a block, or throughout the semester, or in a mixture of both formats. In total, the internship should comprise of 15-20 hours. If a teaching assignment of this length is not possible, the student must sit in on a second subject. The application form for the internship can be obtained at the Leibniz School of Education. Approval must be granted by the school and by the supervising institute.

Goals and Requirements of the Internship

    1. Your internship will involve intensive collaboration with the school's teachers, and comprehensive preparation of lessons.

    2. The internship should be used to get a sense of daily life at a school, and as an opportunity to assess your own suitability as a teacher.

    3. The student teacher should have the opportunity to make use of her knowledge of the subject, and didactic methods, within the school system.

    4. The teaching hours should be conducted in the "Sekundarbereich I und II".

    5. Teaching experience is comprised of observation and independent teaching (at least 3 hours). During the observation hours, the student-teacher must document the lessons, displaying the ability to use necessary lesson-planning terminology. A selection of these (3-4) should be attached to the final report.

    6. At the conclusion of the internship, the student-teacher must write an eight page report about the internship. The must be submitted four weeks after the completion of the internship.
