Making Sense of Uncertainty in Science and Policy – SOCRATES Workshop on June 16th

Register now for our upcoming workshop. Deadline: 5 June 2025.

We are pleased to invite you to the upcoming SOCRATES Workshop
Making Sense of Uncertainty in Science and Policy, taking place on 16 June 2025 at Leibniz University Hannover (room TBA).

Hosted by SOCRATES Fellows Dr. Margherita Harris and Dr. Joe Roussos, this one-day workshop brings together leading researchers to explore the conceptual, practical, and philosophical dimensions of uncertainty in science and policymaking.

Speakers include Tyler DesRoches, Joel Katzav, Jakob Ortmann, and Futura Venuto, who will address a range of timely questions: What makes uncertainty measurable? Is probability always the right tool — or are alternatives needed? How should we deal with uncertainty that resists quantification, as in climate science? And perhaps most importantly, how do we confront the limits of our understanding when it comes to uncertainty?

We look forward to a full day of engaging talks and critical discussions on the epistemology and ethics of uncertainty across disciplines.

Programme updates and further details can be found on the workshop webpage.
