Fake News, Green Energy, and the Climate Crisis: Public event fosters philosophical discussions on trust in science

On Saturday, November 8th, the philosophy department—led by members of SOCRATES—participated in the Hannover-wide "Nacht, die Wissen schafft" event. At this Night Out with Science, Prof. Torsten Wilholt presented a talk on science in the face of fake news and populism to a full room and Prof. Mathias Frisch tackled difficult philosophical questions about the climate crisis. In the third session, Dr. Tanja Rechnitzer moderated a discussion between Prof. Dr. Dietmar Hübner and Rainer Baake (Stiftung Klima) on the ethical dimensions of green energy to a concerned public. The event closed with a Philosophy Club led by Dr. George Kwasi Barimah and Dr. Donal Khosrowi, where questions about artificial intelligence were the hot topic.

We are very grateful to our speakers and of course our guests for making the event a success. Many thanks to Dr. T.Y. Branch for the organisation and to Claudia Schindler and the SOCRATES support team for putting the event together.
